Meta Ad Account Setup Guide

Before TopKnock can run ads for your business, you need a Meta (Facebook) ad account. If you don't have one yet, this guide walks you through it in about 10 minutes.

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A personal Facebook account (to manage the business page)
  • A credit or debit card for ad spend (Meta charges you directly)
  • About 10-15 minutes
1

Create a Facebook Business Page

3 minutes

Skip this step if: You already have a page for your business

  1. 1.1Go to facebook.com/pages/create
  2. 1.2Choose "Business or Brand"
  3. 1.3Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your truck, cards, and website (e.g., "Smith's Plumbing & Drain")
  4. 1.4Add your business category — search for your trade (Plumber, HVAC, Roofing, etc.)
  5. 1.5Add your phone number, address, and a profile photo (your logo works great)
  6. 1.6Hit "Create Page" — you're done with this step

Tip: Use your real business name, not a personal name. This is what homeowners will see on your ads.

2

Set Up Meta Business Suite

2 minutes
  1. 2.1Go to business.facebook.com
  2. 2.2Click "Create Account"
  3. 2.3Enter your business name and your name
  4. 2.4Add your business email
  5. 2.5Connect the Facebook Page you just created (or your existing one)
  6. 2.6Follow the prompts to finish setup

Tip: Business Suite is free. It's just Meta's way of organizing business assets (pages, ad accounts, etc.) in one place.

3

Create an Ad Account

2 minutes
  1. 3.1In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings → Ad Accounts
  2. 3.2Click "Add" → "Create a New Ad Account"
  3. 3.3Name it something simple like "[Your Business] Ads"
  4. 3.4Set your timezone to your local time
  5. 3.5Set currency to USD
  6. 3.6Assign yourself as the admin

Tip: You only need one ad account. TopKnock manages everything inside it — campaigns, ad sets, and creatives.

4

Add a Payment Method

2 minutes
  1. 4.1In your Ad Account settings, go to "Payment Settings"
  2. 4.2Click "Add Payment Method"
  3. 4.3Enter your credit or debit card (business card recommended)
  4. 4.4Set your spending limit if you want one (optional — TopKnock manages your daily budget)

Tip: Meta charges your card directly for ad spend. TopKnock never touches your ad money — we only charge our platform subscription separately.

5

Connect to TopKnock

1 minute
  1. 5.1Go back to TopKnock and continue onboarding
  2. 5.2Click "Connect Facebook Account"
  3. 5.3Grant TopKnock permission to manage your ad campaigns
  4. 5.4Select the Ad Account you just created
  5. 5.5That's it — we take it from here

Tip: You can revoke access anytime from your Meta Business Settings. Your ad account is always yours.

What to Expect After Setup

Identity Verification (one-time)

Meta may ask you to verify your identity with a photo ID or business documents. This is normal for new ad accounts and usually takes 1-2 business days.

Ad Review (each campaign)

Every new ad goes through Meta's review process. Most ads are approved within 24 hours, sometimes in minutes. TopKnock handles all the compliance rules so your ads don't get rejected.

Spending Limits

New ad accounts start with a low daily spending limit (around $50/day). This increases automatically as Meta trusts your account — usually within the first 1-2 weeks. TopKnock optimizes your budget within whatever limit you have.

Special Ad Category

Contractor ads fall under Meta's “Housing” special ad category. Don't worry — TopKnock automatically sets this up correctly for every campaign. It just means your ads will target homeowners broadly (no age or gender restrictions) which is actually what you want.
