About TopKnock
Facebook ads for contractors — built by a contractor.
Why this exists
I’m Josh Malone. Before TopKnock I ran two contracting businesses — a carpet cleaning company and a pressure & soft-wash outfit. I know what it’s like to spend $2,000 on Facebook ads and get zero calls. I know the feeling of getting a lead at 7pm, calling back at 7:03, and finding out the homeowner already booked the other guy. I know how much a bad ad week hurts when there’s a truck payment due.
After the contractor years I moved to the agency side. I’ve spent the last few years inside a marketing agency that’s deployed $100M+ in Meta ad spend — not as the person hitting “go” on every campaign (nobody at any agency does that solo), but as part of the team watching the patterns repeat. At that volume, the things that actually drive performance — angle testing, speed-to-lead, fatigue detection, lead-quality scoring, A/B discipline — stop being theories and start being patterns you watch repeat. I saw what agencies charge ($2–3k/mo is standard) and what the actual work behind it costs. That’s when it hit me: most agencies charge contractors agency money for work that, with today’s AI plus the right trade-specific playbook, takes a fraction of the time. Contractors were paying for the agency’s overhead, not the results.
TopKnock is what I wish those contractors had when I was on the agency side: the same playbook, the same creative, the same testing — without the agency markup or the dashboard tax.
Why the name
We knock. They call.
Our ads knock on homeowners’ Facebook and Instagram feeds. Homeowners call the contractor. That’s the whole product in four words.
Why I’m doing this
I’m a dad to two kids on the autism spectrum. Building TopKnock means I get to be there for them — school runs, therapy sessions, the good days and the hard ones. A lot of marketing-SaaS founders build from a VC-backed office in a major city. I’m building this so I can work, be present for my family, and help contractors I genuinely respect — all at once.
How we actually work
Our team builds and runs every account. AI is the multiplier — it writes 10–30 ad variations per campaign, spots patterns in Meta’s data faster than a human could, and flags underperformers before they burn your budget. But a person reviews every ad. You approve what we send. Nothing hits Meta on autopilot.
If a campaign isn’t producing in 14 days, we kill it. No “let’s give it another month.” We track real jobs booked, not vanity metrics.
What we believe
- Your ad spend is yours. It goes directly from your card to Meta — we never deduct from it. On Growth and Pro we add a 3% management fee only on spend above your tier ceiling (capped at $1,500/mo so the bill stays predictable), billed separately on Stripe. Most agencies take 15-20% on every dollar with no cap.
- No lock-in. No asset hostage. Your Meta ad account, your business page, your customer list, your contract — all yours, never ours. No exit fee, no handover negotiation, no “we need to keep the assets to wind things down.” Cancel today and your accounts are still yours tomorrow morning. Your leads + business data export to a single file any time, no questions asked.
- Plain English. If we can’t explain what we’re doing, we shouldn’t be doing it.
- Your trade has its own voice. Plumbers don’t talk like remodelers. Roofers don’t talk like landscapers. Our AI is trained on your trade’s language, and our team knows the difference.
- If it’s not booking jobs, we kill it. Fast.
Today
TopKnock is a small team, overseen by me. You can reach me at josh@topknock.ai. I still run accounts personally. If you sign up, we’re going to know each other.
